The Good, the Bad & the Ugly: Everything you’ll want to see from day one at the PGA Championship

Andrew Pierse

Thursday’s opening round at Baltusrol was, definitely errrr, interesting.

It was really one of those days that had absolutely everything, yet nobody could have predicted how it was going to play out.

Unfortunately, it was a tough day for the Irish with Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell both on +4 and in danger of missing the weekend, while Shane Lowry and Padraig Harrington are slightly better placed on +2 and +1.

They’ll be hoping they can make a run of it on Friday to get themselves back into contention on a golf course where anything can happen.

Where the world’s biggest stars seemed to crumble under the 40°C heat, some unexpected challengers popped up to stake their claim. One thing is for sure though; absolutely nobody who was glued to the coverage of the 2016 PGA Championship on Thursday night was left action deprived and disappointed with what they saw.

We had the painstakingly close hole-in-ones at the tricky 9th

With the leaderboard looking the way it is right now it’s going to be one hell of a weekend. So clear your schedule, grab a beer and settle in for the magic that is the PGA Championship.
