The coolest man in golf has confirmed he’s playing the Irish Open

This time two weeks we’ll all be hoping to catch the second-hand smoke of a bona-fide sporting legend at Royal County Down during the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open.

That’s right, Miguel Angel Jimenez will be among the field at this month’s event along with top players such as Ernie Els, Martin Kaymer, and José Maria Olazábal.

The Spaniard is among the final entry list for the event which gets underway later this month. There will be a strong Irish contingent, too, with Rory McIlroy playing his home course along with Darren Clarke, Padraig Harrington and Graeme McDowell.

The local lads are set to tee off at the tournament’s first appearance north of the border since 2012. 16 of the world’s top 50 golfers are on the final entry list including Sergio Garcia and Danny Willet.

Rickie Fowler is coming too but, already, much of the focus is on whether he’ll be bring his new girlfriend along as a good-luck charm, following his Players Championship win last Sunday
