Shane Lowry saved Luke Donald from being attacked by a baboon

Say your prayers, you heathen baboon!

If you ever find yourself in a situation where there is a legitimate threat of charging baboon attacks, make sure you’ve got Shane Lowry to help you out.

Irish golfer Shane Lowry came to the rescue for Luke Donald during the Nedbank Challenge at Sun City, South Africa yesterday.

The British golfer was casually planning out his next shot on the 13th fairway at Gary Player Country Club when unbeknownst to him, he was charged down by a large, fleet-footed primate.Luckily, sharp-eyed Lowry was quick to alert the former world number one of the rogue baboon and any potential crisis was averted.

I’d seen a baboon hiding in the trees as we walked up. As I got to my ball, suddenly Shane said ‘watch out’, I turned around and the thing was galloping toward me. I jumped out of the way but it gave me a little bit of a fright as it strolled right by me.

We like to think when Lowry inevitably recounts this fantastic anecdote at functions and parties, he’ll channel his inner Reverend Lovejoy.
