Shane Lowry gives honest reply when asked where he’d be without golf

The premise was a simple one – ‘If you weren’t a golfer, what would you be?’

Shane Lowry doesn’t give himself enough credit with his response but it sure is funny.

The Offaly native took part in a ‘Job Interview’ skit for The European Tour, which also featured Ryder Cup hero Tommy Fleetwood and Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnson.

Asked by his caddy what would he be if golf had not turned out to be his profession, Lowry shot back, “Probably broke!”

The 31-year-old is far too modest, as we suspect he would have excelled in other fields given his driven nature and affable nature. As for the golf, he’s ticking along nicely.

His biggest ever winners’ cheque was for claiming the SGC Bridgestone Invitational in 2015 – € 1,412,760 – while he earned just over €600,000 on the PGA Tour this year, including €162,000 for finishing tied 12th at the PGA Championship.

Lowry’s first ever job, he revealed, was in a hardware store back home. Andy Sullivan, meanwhile, had a job at ASDA and once sent a customer an Ali G DVD instead of some garlic bread.

As for Fleetwood, who brilliantly teamed up to go 4 from 4 in The Ryder Cups foursomes and fourballs, his first ever job was spot on – professional golfer.
