Rory McIlroy hailed ‘King of the North’ after teeing off at Pebble

Golfer Rory McIlroy has been hailed as the King of the North by an enthusiastic spectator at Pebble Beach.

McIlroy began his final round charge with some positive affirmation from the stands that he was the king after his Canadian Open win earlier this month.

McIlroy wore a Toronto Raptors jersey after his win with the NBA champions adopting We The North as part of their branding this season. The Raptors win in the NBA Finals also occurred shortly after the conclusion of Game of Thrones with Jon Snow hailed as the King of the North for a large part of the series.

McIlroy is currently +1 over for the final round at the time of writing as he tries to keep pace with the leaders at -5 under for the tournament.

The King of the North may or may not take off for McIlroy from here but it still has some way to go before it can take on golf’s ultimate post shot chant of mashed potatoes.

It’s a crowd favourite and can be heard with plenty of gusto.
