At some stages during the weekend, there was the eerily impressive feeling that Rory McIlroy was hardly trying.

While the World No 1 may not have matched his record breaking round of yesterday, McIlroy did cement a tournament record of -21 to record his third victory this year. The Holywood sensation looked a class above all competitors over the last four days, finishing seven shots clear of nearest challengers Webb Simpson and Patrick Rodgers after carding a final round 69 at Quail Hollow. The form that he is currently enjoying was summed up by his response to a question after his win about "what's life like being Rory McIlroy?" to which he responded "Feels pretty good at the minute."
