That piece of magic made up for a disappointing start and he ended the day with a 71 and on 7 under ahead of the weekend.
Despite being burned by Brian O'Driscoll on twitter last night Rory Mc Ilroy enjoyed another solid day shooting a 70 to end the day eight under and just two off the lead held by Henrik Stenson.
It could have gone even better for the Ulsterman until hitting the water at the last.
