This ridiculously flukey shot may just be the one to help Paul Dunne get his maiden win

A nation holds its breath

Please don’t blow this.

It is really shaping up nicely for the Irish at the British Masters.

At the time of writing Wicklow’s Paul Dunne holds a three-shot lead as he pursues his maiden professional win.

The 24-year-old broke onto the scene as an amateur and was final round leader in the British Open, it was nearly a miracle.

But it wasn’t to be for Dunne, a tough day at the office meant he dropped to 30th.

And professional life hasn’t been kind, Dunne has been on the cusp a few times but has never got over the line. He even lost a playoff earlier in the year.

But now he leads with the likes of Rory McIlroy trying to close the gap.

And if he does go on to win it he can count his lucky stars after receiving an incredible stroke of luck.

Playing the 11th hole, Dunne looked to have overshot the green, oh how it all could have started to fall apart.

But no, lady luck was in and, well just have a look at what happened.
