One Direction’s Niall Horan to caddie for Rory McIlroy at Masters par-3 contest

As if he didn't have enough attention

As world No.1, Rory McIlroy is already one of golf’s great draws, but the galleries around the Irishman during tomorrow’s Masters par-3 competition look set to be even bigger after he revealed his celebrity caddie

One Direction star Niall Horan will carry McIlroy’s bag during the informal nine-hole event, which many believed is cursed as no winner of the tournament has yet gone on to pull on the green jacket on Sunday.

‘He’s never been to the Masters,’ McIlroy told ESPN. ‘I caught up with him in Australia at the end of last year and he was really excited, and I said, “If you’re available Wednesday afternoon and you want to carry the bag for nine holes, you’re more than welcome”.’

The light-hearted competition has traditionally been a day off for players’ regular caddies, with friends and family given the chance to experience a day inside the ropes at Augusta. Last year, then-fiancé Caroline Wozniacki caddied for McIlroy.

Tiger Woods is playing the short course for the first time since 2004, with children Sam, 7, and Charlie, 6, sharing caddying duties for the four-time Masters champion.
