Maguire

There’s no doubt you’ve heard the name.

Leona Maguire is something else, she’s almost a household name at this point.

Both Leona and her sister Lisa grew up in the Irish spotlight after dominating the underage seen both in Ireland and globally.

Now at 22-years-of-age it is looking like Maguire could be ready to step up to the professional ranks but she is doing something quite superb as an amateur.

The Women’s British Open is currently taking place in Fife over in Scotland and Maguire is hoping to win best amateur in the field.

Maguire

Maguire currently sits six under par, three ahead of the next closest amateur and winning the title is a serious accomplishment.

But what is even more impressive is that the Cavan native won it last year too and is looking to successfully retain her status as best amateur at a golfing major.

That is some achievement by Maguire and she has the opportunity to push herself further up the pack today if she shoots low.

The 22-year-old currently sits six under par, just one shot behind world number two Lexi Thompson, and could launch herself right up near the top with just five shots separating her and second place Georgia Hall and Moriya Jutanugarn.

Korea’s In-Kyung Kim is the runaway leader and 17 under par, six shots ahead of her closest competitors.
