Tell us what you really think, Ian

Ian Poulter has sensationally suggested US fans should be tasered ‘between the eyes’ due to their poor behaviour at the Ryder Cup.

Europe are preparing to face USA at Bethpage Black in New York on Friday, hoping to retain their crown and win on US Soil for the first time since 2012.

Poulter, who was a superb Ryder Cup record having taken part in seven tournaments, accused US fans of being “embarrassingly stupid” ahead of what is always a spiky atmosphere.

In an in interview alongside Tyrrell Hatton with SportsBible, Poulter said: “I don’t even know where to start. There’s no… I mean, f***ing mashed potato and all that bulls*** that you hear is madness. ‘In the hole! Get in the hole!’ It’s a 600-yard par-5, you f***ing idiot, ” Poulter said.

He then joked: “I actually just wanna borrow the taser from the security guard. Just to let one go per hole would be amazing. Imagine that. You get one taser per hole. That’d be awesome. How good, right between the eyes. Have it.”

He then added: “It’s not heckling. It’s just complete and utter embarrassing stupidity. We don’t get that at the Open Championship. You don’t get it anywhere. Like, it’s only in America that the stupidness comes out. I mean, it’s just so annoying.”

Poulter then joked: “This is just a UK channel, right?”

Hatton then replied: “I was gonna say, you’ve gone to town.”

It seems most fans agree…

Poulter has not been universally criticised for the comments, and many are even in support of his assertions.

One viewer commented: “I’m an American, and I’ve played and loved golf all my life, here and abroad, and Ian Poulter is 110% right about American golf fans who shout BS like Mashed Potatoes and Get in the hole, etc.

“It’s embarrassing to watch and listen to them do it. It’s not funny, it’s classless and very immature. European fans are generally speaking much much better.”

Another added: “Every time they played on US soil, it is absolutely hard to watch because of the unruly American fans. They not only over celebrate (which is fine) but seemingly on purpose, try to diminish and almost threaten their opposition team.”
