This gentleman had far too much faith in a feeble fence that was about two feet high.
One golf fan at Royal Birkdale was confident that his body weight would be supported by the fence that separated the punters from Jordan Spieth's victory lap.
Spieth had just put the finishing touches on a dramatic final round which saw him threaten to throw away a lead only for the 23-year-old to pull off a late display of composure to claim the 2017 British Open.
A 35ft putt for eagle on the 15th settled the nerves that were beginning to show and there was no last-gasp fightback from Matt Kuchar, as Spieth tightened his grip on the claret jug.

On a Sunday that could have so easily descended into meltdown mode, Spieth proved yet again why he is one of the greatest golfers walking the planet.
And everybody wanted a piece of him as he celebrated his victory.
One spectator reached out his hand for a high five from the world number three. He stretched. He leaned. He begged for the honour of having his palm meet Spieth's.
And it all went tits up.

The fan saw the funny side of the incident but he'll have to wait for that high five because Spieth wanted precisely no part of speaking to someone who couldn't even manage to stay upright.
This one hurt. Shane Lowry looked odds on to win his first solo PGA Tour title since the 2019 Open, as he held a three-shot lead with three to play at the Cognizant Classic in Palm Beach, Florida. He went into the final day in the lead, and had played his fourth round beautifully, with […]
This is extraordinary! On Sunday at Hollywood Lakes Golf Club in Dublin, playing partners Cian Casey and Gavin Ryan both made holes-in-one on the same hole. The odds of achieving this are simply astronomical, which the club explained on social media. They said: “An almost unbelievable scene unfolded at Hollywood Lakes Golf Club on Sunday, […]
Late drama ruins golden opportunity Shane Lowry came agonisingly close to securing his first DP World Tour victory since 2022, only for a disastrous final hole to derail his chances at the Dubai Invitational. The Offaly native produced an excellent final-round performance on Sunday, putting himself firmly in contention throughout the day. Lowry battled with […]
