Dublin consider appeal following controversial All-Ireland loss

It took a point to win this year's All-Ireland senior ladies football title, but did it take a disallowed point to lose it?

Cork claimed their sixth title in a row by defeating Dublin by 1-07 to 1-06 in Croke Park on Sunday, but the game wasn't without its controversy. The Rebelettes won by a one-point margin, thanks to Sinead Aherne's last-gasp penalty  closing the gap, but in the first half, Dublin appeared to have a point unfairly ruled as a wide. Carla Rowe's effort in the 22nd minute effort looked like it had just crept inside the post, but the umpire waved it as a miss. Dublin manager Gregory McGonigle told RTE after the game that the executive of the Dublin county board will be meeting tonight to discuss the point that was disallowed. The board will examine the rules to see if they have grounds for appeal. A successful appeal may force a replay. However McGonigle, who argued that the fact that Hawk-Eye was switched off demonstrates an inequality between the men and the women's game. doesn't appear too confident that a replay is likely.

"We'll see if anything can be done. That's something for the county board to look at. We manage the players and we'll leave that to the people on committees." “If there is a right there then I do believe we should be offered a replay. There’s possibly a loophole where there mightn’t be a replay.”
