Conor Glass earns AFL contract extension after TWO GAMES

No stopping this man

Conan Doherty

Unbelievable news.

Conor Glass was never going down to Australia for a holiday and, after making his first team debut for Hawthorn just two weeks ago, he’s already convinced the club to tie him down for another two seasons.

That’s right, two games and a hell of a lot of head-turns later and the Derry prospect has already sealed a deal that keeps him in the AFL until 2019 at least.

Hawthorn confirmed the news on Wednesday that the 19-year-old will automatically join the senior list for the 2019 season.

“He will remain on Hawthorn’s Rookie list in 2018, with the promise of an elevation to Hawthorn’s senior list the following year,” the club announced on their website.

“He is a great mark, displays great intent, and has shown great skills on either side of his body.”

After turning in impressive stats and some truly exciting highlights during his breakthrough game at half back, Glass then showed off his matured physicality in yet another win against Sydney.

Two games, two wins, two bruised Sydney players and a new two-year contract is on the table.

Speaking on Hawthorn TV where they celebrated more of his highlights, the Glen club man was as level-headed and forward-thinking as always.

“It’s pretty surreal but I’m just taking each game as it comes,” he said.

“Playing at the MCG was unbelievable – Friday night lights against Sydney, it couldn’t get any bigger than that.

“It came very quickly but I’m enjoying it.”

And it’s not like he has any presumptions either.

“My aim is just to play good footie whether it’s at AFL level or VFL.

“VFL is going very well and we’ll more than likely get to the finals so I just want to play well and finish out the year well.”

Most Irish lads start at half back because they can see the game in front of them but Glass has been in at midfield at Victorian Football League level and has hopes of pushing further forward too to try and score.

He tells a charming tale of his mum taking an hour or two to get back home from the shops with her groceries back in Derry because everyone is now talking about AFL and they’re talking about Conor Glass.

Plenty of more where that came from.
