The game has changed

We all remember being 14 and having our parents shout “get off that Playstation, you’re wasting your life!”

First of all, chill out Dad. And second of all, that may no longer be true as the world of competitive gaming is gathering momentum and there seems to be actual money to be made.

Just two days ago the FIFA Interactive World Cup final was won by Abdulaziz Alshehri.

And now Wolfsburg are getting involved on a club level after signing up professional gamers Benedict “Salz0r” Salzer and Daniel “Dani” Fink to represent the club in a virtual Bundesliga tournament set up by EA Sports.

Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs told the club’s official website:

“Between real and digital football there are now always more points of contact.

“The games get more realistic from year to year and are well received by both our professionals and our fans.

“With our commitment (launching the e-sports team), we want to bring together the two worlds in the future even more closely.”

This could very well be the last ever article to be written by us as we go home to practice our edge of the box runs for corners.
