Wednesday’s transfer tales: Pogba happy at Juve

Gareth Makim

Paul Pogba has disappointed Chelsea and Manchester United fans by ruling out a move to the Premier League for now.

The French midfielder, still only 21, has been heavily linked with a move back to former club United, while Jose Mourinho is a huge fan. But Pogba has firmly denied he wants to leave Juventus, telling a French website: ‘I feel very well at Juventus. I hope to stay here for long. Manchester United? I will ask why they let me go. I came here and I am very happy to wear the Bianconeri jersey. Everything is fine.’ (Daily Star)

Southampton have done pretty well with acquisitions from the Eredivisie, none more so than manager Ronald Koeman, and the Holland legend could be about to add a third forward from the Dutch league. With Graziano Pelle and Dusan Tadic flourishing at St Mary’s, Koeman is keen on Tadic’s former FC Twente clubmate Jesus Corona. The Mexico forward is still just 21 and reportedly has a release clause of just £2.5million. (Mirror)

The arrival of Thibaut Courtois signalled the end of Petr Cech’s hold on the goalkeeper’s shirt at Chelsea, but the Czech stopper is in no rush to head for the exit doors in January. Besiktas are the latest club to express their interest, but the 32-year-old wants to wait for the chance to be first-choice, even if that means sitting on the bench at Stamford Bridge until the summer. The ex-Tottenham support group in Hull could be getting a new member. After signing Tom Huddlestone, Jake Livermore and Michael Dawson from Spurs in recent times, Tigers boss Steve Bruce has his eye on speedy winger Aaron Lennon, who is now surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane and could be had for around £7million (Mirror)

Leicester City have jumped to the front of the queue to sign Celtic midfielder Kris Commons. The 31-year-old is out of contract next summer, and with no agreement on a new deal, the Foxes have joined Crystal Palace and Bolton as suitors for Commons, who could be available for as little as £350,000 in January. It’s been a rapid fall from grace for Darren Bent, and now Aston Villa’s record signing looks set to be shipped out on loan… to Championship side Brighton. Seagulls boss Sami Hyppia is looking to tie up a short-term loan deal for the former England forward. (Daily Mail)
