We get a repeat of last year’s final as the FA Cup 3rd round draw is made

Arsenal v Hull was the first tie announced

Darragh Murphy

The draw for the 3rd round of the FA Cup took place this evening and the big sides will be delighted with.

A combination of laughter and surprised gasps rang out when the first two balls were drawn as it was revealed that last year’s FA Cup winners Arsenal would meet the runners up Hull City at the Emirates.

Hull City v Arsenal - Premier League

Liverpool will be having nightmares of their 1988 FA Cup Final defeat as they were drawn against the victors Wimbledon. The result 26 years ago turned out to be one of the biggest shocks in the history of the competition as the Merseysiders fell to a first-half Lawrie Sanchez goal before Dave Beasant saved a penalty.

Manchester United fans won’t have an awful lot to complain about as they were drawn against either Yeovil or Accrington Stanley, depending on who wins the replay, but neither side will be giving Louis van Gaal too many sleepless nights.

Manchester United v Chelsea - Premier League

It’s an all London tie as 2012 winners Chelsea will host Watford while 2011 champions Manchester City are home to Sheffield Wednesday.
