Daryl Horgan has certainly left Martin O’Neill  some more things to ponder after his performance against Zenit St-Petersburg.

It was heartbreak for Dundalk in the Europa League on Thursday night as they lost 2-1 to Zenit in the lion’s den. However, it was far from an easy night’s work for the Russian outfit and considering how much hassle the Lilywhites caused them over two legs, they’ll be happy to see the back of them.

A brace from Giuliano bagged all three points for Zenit, but for a brief period Dundalk had the game level at 1-1 thanks to a stunning goal from 2016 PFAI player of the year Daryl Horgan after 53 minutes.

Horgan, who was recently drafted into the provisional Republic of Ireland squad for the World Cup qualifier against Austria next Saturday, gave himself more than a chance of making the final squad with this super effort.
He pounced on the ball from just inside the opposition’s half after Mauricio miscued a header in midfield. Once he took hold of possession, the afterburners came on and he darted all the way towards goal before coolly slotting the ball into the net.
