Vine: Messi equals Ronaldo’s Champions League tally… and then beats him

Two goals from the Barcelona man sees him level with Raul's record

Things just got personal.

When all the eyes of the world were on Cristiano Ronaldo on Tuesday night, ready for him to put a weakened Liverpool to the sword and become the Champions League all-time top goalscorer, his little Argentine buddy stole his thunder.

Lionel Messi capitalised on Ronaldo’s goalless performance by netting twice last night as Barcelona saw off Ajax 2-0 in Amsterdam.

The number 10 went level with Ronaldo on 70 goals when he headed home in the first half before this strike took him on a par with Raul, the current record holder.

In fairness, he didn’t have Kolo Toure to contend with…
