Skrtel's a warrior

Liverpool fans breathed a collective sigh of relief as a conscious Martin Skrtel showed the two thumbs up being stretchered off.

The Slovakian centre-back stayed down after a nasty aerial challenge with Rudy Gestede at the start of Liverpool’s FA Cup clash against Blackburn Rovers. Skrtel appeared to suffer a concussion which caused the ref to stop the game for roughly 10 minutes as the defender received treatment.

The incident happened in the third minute but Skrtel didn’t leave the pitch until several minutes later, in a stretcher. He gave the international hand gesture for OK – the two thumbs up – as he was leaving the pitch.

Early indications suggest that he hasn’t suffered any broken bones, but the defender has been taken to hospital for precautionary scans.
