VIDEO: Paul Merson’s attempted Kylie Minogue joke could actually make him less funny than Charlie Nicholas

Conan Doherty

It wasn’t the joke, it was the execution everything.

“Kylie Minogue, will you just leave a minute? I’ll be back to the house in a minute.”

So went Paul Merson’s attempt at wit this weekend.

Soccer Saturday never fails to deliver. Paul Merson always fails.

The Sky Sports pundit sank to Charlie Nicholas levels of humour on Saturday when he tried to cleverly reply to Jeff Stelling’s question about Leicester winning the league.

Of course, it was so poor and so unclear that we can only assume at this stage about the joke’s actual meaning and punch line. We’re guessing it was something to do with Leicester winning the league being a fantasy – like Kylie Minogue being with Paul Merson.

Maybe.

It would still take some stopping Charlie Nicholas though whose cringeworthy and never-ending response to Jeff Stelling about going to Specsaver still remains as one of the best/worst pieces of television ever.

Serious competition in the Soccer Saturday studio.
