Pep Guardiola won’t be a happy man this afternoon after it was announced today that Mario Goetze’s 2015 is over.

The player was a starter for Germany in last night’s historic 1-0 loss to Ireland at the Aviva, but had to hobble off after James McCarthy crashed into him in the 31st minute to try and win back the ball.

The playmaker has been enjoying some profitable link-up play with Thomas Muller but he was withdrawn shortly before the break and replaced by Andre Schurrle.

However, this afternoon it has been confirmed that he is set to spend the next 10-12 weeks on the sideline after suffering a serious thigh injury in last night’s game when stretching for the ball.

According to the German Football Association the player is set to spend the remainder of 2015 on the treatment table

‘Mario Götze will be unavailable for club and country for at least ten weeks, which was confirmed by the medical staff after the Republic of Ireland European Championship qualifier last night.

‘Mario has picked up a tendon rupture in his thigh after making a lunge said team doctor Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt. Götze is now being treated by the medical team in Leipzig.

‘It’s annoying for us and a real shame for him,’ said Joachim Löw. ‘We wish him a good and speedy recovery. I am sure that he will be able to pick up his form again once he returns.’

McCarthy was all over the pitch last night but his challenge on the playmaker did not go down well with everyone.

While some people felt the German was a bit soft to be taken off.
