We may need to reevaluate our opinions on Luis Suarez’s character.
After his numerous controversies on the football pitch, we had him pegged as a nasty piece of work but he actually seems like a sound enough fella off the field.
The Barcelona forward took time away from his preparations for his side’s Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich to speak to a young Uruguayan boy who is undergoing cancer treatment.
Suarez pretended to be a Spanish doctor as he video-called young Mateo, a patient at a Dr Perez Scremini Foundation, before revealing himself as the lad’s hero.
The former Liverpool striker moved the boy so much that Mateo was left wiping away tears of happiness and we have to admit that we might have gotten a little misty-eyed as Suarez encouraged him to continue the fight against the cancer.
What a guy!
