Today Yang Xu gave us his best Diego Maradona impression by attempting to palm the ball into the net for Shandong Luneng during their 4-1 defeat at the hands of Jeonbuk Motors in the AFC Champions League.
Not only was he met with the embarrassment of failing to beat the ‘keeper with the aid of his hand but the referee didn’t take the offence too kindly as he stormed into the box to brandish a second yellow to Xu.
Xu had scored Motors’ only goal of the game and looked so eager to get another that he abandoned the most basic rule of football – hit ball with foot.
We understand that players can get fairly desperate for goals but c’mon lads, enough of this.
