If there’s anything more avoidable than being flashed a yellow card for time-wasting over a throw-in, it’s receiving a second one exactly two seconds later for a needless challenge.
With a full 22 minutes remaining and following Giovani dos Santos’ tremendous equaliser against Kansas City, Ashley Cole decided it was high time to settle for a 1-1 draw by taking his time with a throw-in in his own half.
The referee didn’t take too kindly to Cole’s bizarrely premature decision and promptly went to his pocket, took Cole’s name and flashed yellow in his direction.
It didn’t take too long for the former Chelsea and Arsenal left back to receive his marching orders as he dived studs-up into a challenge, clearly forgetting that he had entered the referee’s notebook just milliseconds earlier.
