Victor Valdes felt his life was in danger after being told to train alone by Louis van Gaal

What if?

We knew he didn’t really enjoy his time at Manchester United but this is ridiculous.

Victor Valdes never really got a proper chance at Old Trafford and his feud with Louis van Gaal was public and pretty undignified.

Valdes, who has now gone on loan to Standard Liege, was made train on his own after Van Gaal claimed the former Barca keeper refused to turn out for United’s Under-21s.

Now the Spaniard has revealed that those solo runs around Carrington could have ended up costing him his life.

“What if I were to hit the post and were to lose consciousness, and if I swallowed my tongue?” he tells El Pais.

What if, indeed?

If we take Valdes’ concerns to their logical conclusion then he really shouldn’t go anywhere, ever again on his own. It’s just not safe.

He shouldn’t even be home alone just in case a light fitting falls from the ceiling and knocks him unconscious.

As it turned out Valdes had academy goalkeeping coach Alan Fettis on hand were he to run into a goalpost, get taken out by a crazed Jack Russell, fall down a well or be stricken by any of the other major pitfulls that lie await at MANCHESTER UNITED’S TRAINING GROUND.

“I’ve got my phone in my pocket, I’d call and they’d come to help you”, Fettis reassured Valdes.

But you can’t take Alan everywhere with you. can you Victor?
