Transfer tittle tattle: Beyond the Mats

Will Hummels choose Arsenal over United?

Gareth Makim

Louis van Gaal may have been given short shrift in his efforts to bring Mats Hummels to Manchester United last summer, but the Dutchman will be encouraged to go back to the well for the World Cup-winning defender in January if Borussia Dortmund’s season does not improve. (Manchester Evening News)

But the Sunday Mirror claim Hummels only has eyes for the Emirates, with Arsenal his preferred destination.

United are also in the hunt for Benfica midfielder Anderson Talisca. The Daily Star on Sunday says Old Trafford scouts were present as 20-year-old Talisca scored the only goal in Benfica’s Champions League victory over Monaco, but Van Gaal will face stiff competition should the Brazilian opt to leave Lisbon just a few months after his arrival from South America – derby rivals City, Chelsea, Barcelona and PSG are among a host of Europe’s elite clubs also tracking the youngster.

Asmir Begovic

With Liverpool’s defence struggling, Brendan Rodgers could be in the market for an upgrade between the sticks, with a £10million bid for Stoke’s Asmir Begovic (above) being lined up. (Mirror)

England midfielder Fabian Delph could be had for a cutlery-priced fee (sorry) in January after telling Aston Villa he won’t be signing a new contract. The 24-year-old has already turned down a £50,000 a week deal that would see him remain at Villa Park beyond this season. Tottenham, Liverpool and Everton are all tracking developments. (Telegraph)

Wilfried Bony has issued an old fashioned ‘come and get me’ plea to any and all Champions League clubs. If he cannot realise his European dreams with Swansea, the Dutch forward accepts he will have to move on. (Mirror)

Harry Redknapp looks set to rescue Jermain Defoe from the MLS by bringing his former Tottenham charge to QPR in January. Redknapp failed to sign the former England man, who has netted 11 times in 19 games for FC Toronto, in the summer, but will make a second effort when the transfer window opens. (Sky Sports)
