Lots of transfer gossip across the papers today

The FA Cup is doing its best to grab the headlines today but with the transfer window now open, who might be going where and when dominates the press.

Arguably the biggest story revolves around Steven Gerrard’s possible return to Liverpool next January but there seems to be lots of stuff happening at Anfield this month too.

The most interesting to Liverpool fans surely involves West Brom’s Saida Berahino. The Sun say that new Baggies boss Tony Pulis is ready to cash in the striker for £20million and Liverpool and Spurs are interested in being the team to write the cheque. They say Pulis needs to money to do his own shopping so if the deal does happen, expect it to go ahead sooner rather than later.

If Berahino doesn’t rock up to Anfield or White Hart Lane then another, more familiar face, may be. Jermain Defoe’s nightmare spell in the MLS with Toronto looks to be at an end and the Telegraph say the striker has been offered to Liverpool. The Guardian say that Leicester lead the race for the much-travelled striker but it seems the 32-year-old will be back in England this month.

Defoe was once a Spurs player and it seems that his former club are plotting a clearout. The Mirror say that speedster Aaron Lennon is being guided to the exit, with Stoke waiting to try and nab the winger for a fee of £6m. Also hanginging around the exit door to try and sign up the England international are Leicester, West Ham and, of course, QPR.

Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino is also trying to get rid of Paulinho, Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado to get some cash in. Best of luck Mauricio. If he does manage it, Pochettino will try and add Fabien Delph and Danny Ings to his squad.

Finally, the man with the most fragile hamstrings in the game, Ireland’s James McCarthy, is linked with a move from Everton to Spurs too. The Mail say that Tottenham ‘like the player’ but Arsenal are also rumoured to be in the hunt for the former Wigan man.
