Tim Sherwood goes on radio to declare his interest in returning to Aston Villa

This needs to happen

Is he interested? You better believe he is.

Roberto Di Matteo has been sacked as Aston Villa manager after just 11 games as manager. The Championship club are without a win in nine games, and are languishing in 19th place.

Di Matteo had only been appointed in the summer, but the midlands club are now looking for their third manager in a year.

Steve Bruce and Mick McCarthy are among those tipped to take the role, but could Tim Sherwood make a sensational return to the club?

Some Villa fans want it, and the man himself isn’t ruling it out.

Sherwood was Villa manager from February to October 2015. He steered the club away from the relegation zone, and brought them to the FA Cup final, but left after the club went 10 games without a win.

Since then, Villa have appointed and sacked Remi Garde, been relegated from the Premier League and changed owners from American businessman Randy Lerner to Chinese businessman Tony Xia. In the summer, the club appointed Di Matteo, but are now back at square one.

Sherwood, who was also briefly Spurs manager, was on talkSPORT on Monday morning, mulling over Di Matteo’s departure, and was asked if he was interested in returning to the club.

You better believe he is.

“It’s a year since I left the club and in that time they’ve had three managers. So something has to change,” Sherwood said.

“Would I consider it? Listen, I don’t know these new owners. I was there under a different regime.

“But when you go into a club when someone [ new owner Xia] wants to really pick it up and take it forward, then it’s a great opportunity for any young manager.

“I certainly would be no different to anyone else.”

However, despite some Villa fans backing the 47-year-old to return to the club, some aren’t convinced.
