Who knew that Madagascar had no love for the Villa?

We’ve spent waaay too long exploring this awesome new interactive atlas in which the swots at Twitter have broken down each country into their favourite Premier League clubs, based on their Twitter following.

We weren’t altogether surprised to learn that Ireland are mad on Liverpool with 25.67% of Irish Twitter users following the Reds while their old rival Manchester United take second spot with 23.20%.

Poor old Burnley are about as popular as the Good Friday booze ban over here with them languishing at 0.44%.

We were a little shocked to learn that Sunderland, Everton and Hull were so low down on the list due to their historical association with Irish players as they returned a following of 1.57%, 3.10% and 0.90% respectively.

Liverpool also dominate the vast majority of the UK, with the obvious exceptions of London and Manchester in which there exists predictable support for Arsenal and Manchester United.

The research found that the Gunners are the favoured team in the English capital, even in the vicinity of Chelsea, Spurs, Crystal Palace, West Ham and QPR.

United and Liverpool also trump their local rivals, Manchester City and Everton, in the popularity stakes in their respective cities.

Liverpool don’t enjoy too much fanfare in Asia with preference going for Manchester United (India, China and Pakistan) and Arsenal (Japan, The Philippines and South Korea).

Clubs’ association with certain nationalities also plays its part with Chelsea dominating Portugal thanks to The Special One and France loving Arsenal due to Arsene Wenger’s lengthy tenure in charge.

Enjoy exploring the interactive map and watch hours of your workday go flying out the window as you see endeavour to find out is the favoured Premier League team in Yemen, which we can confidently tell you is Chelsea.
