Supporters point the finger at Steven Gerrard as season hangs on by a thread

Superstitious bunch

Steven Gerrard returned to Liverpool last week and supporters struggled to contain their excitement at the return of the club’s favourite son.

But since the legendary Reds midfielder got his name back on Liverpool’s books with a new role with the club’s academy, things have not exactly gone according to plan for the first team.

Jurgen Klopp has overseen three games since Gerrard returned, in an act that the German would have hoped could motivate his players, and all three have resulted in defeats.

Yikes.

The Reds had gone unbeaten at Anfield in the Premier League for over a year when league strugglers Swansea overturned them last Saturday.

Just three days later and Klopp watched his side crash out of the EFL Cup thanks to a late defeat on home soil to Southampton.

But surely they couldn’t lose three games in a row, AT HOME, in the space of seven days.

Surely!

Well, Paul Lambert clearly didn’t get the memo as he sent his Wolves players out with a mission that saw the Championship outfit leave Klopp under mounting pressure as Liverpool’s only hope of silverware this term now remains in the league following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat in the FA Cup fourth round.

It’s obviously just a coincidence that Gerrard so happened to start in his new role at the same time that the first team began hitting a speed bump.

But this crowd wasn’t so quick to write off the possibility that the former Liverpool captain had jinxed the season.
