They’re making a habit of this now.

When Steven Gerrard left his position as a Liverpool youth coach to become manager of Scottish Premiership side Rangers it was always expected that he would venture back to Anfield to give some of the Reds’ younger players a chance at first team football.

In the just over three months that Gerrard has been in charge at Ibrox, he’s done exactly that, bringing a number of players from Merseyside to Scotland.

One of those was former Liverpool right-back Jon Flanagan, who was released at the end of his contract having plead guilty to assaulting his girlfriend in January 2018. Another was Ovie Ejaria, who Gerrard signed on loan from his former club.

Shortly after that move it was revealed that Liverpool and Rangers had entered into an agreement whereby Gerrard’s side would be given first refusal on all Liverpool players Jurgen Klopp is open to sending on loan to Scotland.

That agreement already appears to be paying dividends, after Rangers confirmed that they had signed Liverpool winger Ryan Kent on a season-long loan deal.

Kent made his debut for Liverpool in 2015 and has spent time on loan at Coventry City, Barnsley, SC Freiburg and Bristol City.
