Steven Gerrard is not wasting any time.

Gerrard has already started the process of building his Rangers squad after being confirmed as new Gers manager ten days ago.

The Liverpool legend has been linked with moves for several ex-Reds players but he’s gone in a different direction with his first signing, who is expected to be confirmed later today.

Reports in Scotland claim that Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield has passed a medical at Ibrox and will be unveiled as the club’s newest addition at a press conference in Glasgow.

Arfield has made 194 appearances for the Clarets since making his debut for them in 2010.

A Canada international, Arfield is being brought in to add some much-needed experience to the centre of the park, a position which his new manager knows all too well.

Having featured in less than half of Burnley’s games this season, Arfield is out of contract at Turf Moor this summer and while he didn’t play any part in Sunday’s defeat to Bournemouth, the 29-year-old did join his teammates for a lap of honour and was given a terrific ovation by supporters.

Arfield knows Scottish football well, having lined out for Falkirk between 2007 and 2010, as well as representing the national team at underage level before switching his allegiances to Canada.
