Steven Gerrard denies rift with Reds boss Rodgers

Fall-out is nonsense, claims Liverpool skipper

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard took to Instagram this morning to shut down rumours he and manager Brendan Rodgers had fallen out.

Gerrard was left out of the starting line-up yesterday on the 16th anniversary of his Liverpool debut, but the skipper came off the bench as Liverpool grabbed a late winner against Stoke.

Rodgers played down the significance of the move, telling the BBC: ‘Every player wants to play every minute of every game but the reality is that at this level, and how competitive it is and the squad we have got here, you can’t just rely on Steven in every single game.’

With Gerrard struggling for form and yet to sign a new contract, the 34-year-old midfielder felt the need to put paid to any suggestions his relationship with Rodgers was on the rocks.

Beside a picture of the pair at training, Gerrard wrote: ‘Just to set the record straight media talk of a fall out between us 2 is NONSENSE ..have a nice Sunday #together#solid#ynwa’
