Bruce has opened up about the vacant Republic of Ireland job
Former Premier League manager Steve Bruce has openly expressed his interest in the Republic of Ireland managerial position, leading to speculation about his potential candidacy for the role.
Bruce, who has not worked as a manager since leaving West Bromwich Albion in October 2022, has said he would be interested in succeeding Stephen Kenny.
The former Manchester United captain has never coached at international level before.

Speaking candidly in an interview with Ladbrokes Fanzone, Bruce acknowledged the rumours linking him to the Ireland job.
The former Newcastle boss emphasised his eagerness to return to the world of football management.
“I’m led to believe I’m there or thereabouts in the betting for the Ireland job,” he said.
“It’s a job that would interest me, that’s for sure.”
Bruce’s admission will not only add fuel to the ongoing speculation but also shed light on his desire to step back into management.
The former Birmingham City coach took time away from management but expressed his itch to get back into the game.
The Ireland job, with its unique challenges and international scope, seems to be a prospect that resonates with Bruce.
“Let’s see if the phone rings,” Bruce said.
“It’s one of those – Are they going to make an approach? At this moment in time, I really don’t know. At the moment I can’t really comment on it because there’s been no connection.”

The reaction amongst Ireland supporters online to Bruce being linked with the vacant position has been mixed.
There appear to be concerns that Bruce’s managerial style would not suit a team that attempted to play progressive football under former Ireland coach Kenny.
Lee Carlsey, Neil Lennon, Chris Hughton, and Roy Keane are among the other coaches who have been linked with the vacant position. Ireland do not play another competitive match until next September.
Bruce was eligible to play for the Republic of Ireland.
The former Man United defender, 62, could have represented the Boys in Green under Jack Charlton due to his Irish-born mother.
Bruce’s son Alex represented both Ireland and Northern Ireland.
