Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce seems to have finally had enough of the speculation about his future and hit back at journalists during his press conference for Sunday’s game against Tottenham Hotspur.
Ever since Newcastle’s £300 million takeover was completed over a week ago, a large portion of the talk has been about which revolutionary manager will take the reigns, but amongst all that speculation, it’s like people have forgotten that Bruce is still in charge.
Nonetheless, in a week where everybody expected him to be sacked, the 60-year-old will still be in the dugout for the first game of the new era. Sunday’s fixture will also be Bruce’s 1000th as a manager but fed up of the questions and speculation, Bruce decided to speak his mind and hit back at the journalists.
Hitting back at those present he fiery boss said: “I hope you guys are getting a slap from your bosses, whoever your source was, whoever’s feeding you, didn’t get it right.
“I hope you’re feeling a bit of heat.

“I was told on Monday to carry on as normal. That has been the case so no matter what you have been writing and saying, the message was to carry on and I said ‘no problem.’
“I didn’t need a public statement to reassure me, I saw good people sitting in front of me telling me it was business as usual.”
Despite the murmurs surrounding his long-term future at the North East, Bruce insisted that he was happy to reach 1000 games as a manager, but the focus should be on the team ahead of a historic day at St James’ Park.
Bruce said: “It’s not about me. It’s my 1000th game, I’ve played 950 off games and won, domestically, everything there is to win so… not many get to a 1000 games as a manager.
But it’s not about me, it’s about the club going forward and getting a result on Sunday. I think, at times, we have played very well but we need a victory to get us moving up the table. Let’s hope we can put on a performance.”
