Spartak Moscow troll Celtic over controversial trip to Dubai

Wayne Farry

Sometimes football clubs do good tweets.

Celtic have been at the centre of some controversy of their own creation this past week, due to a mid-season trip to Dubai which left 13 members of their squad, as well as their manager Neil Lennon, self isolating upon their return.

The trip was criticised by the Scottish government, who contested the club’s claim that it had been approved by the government prior to their departure.

Either way it has been a complete mess, adding wholly unavoidable controversy and scrutiny to an already awful for the club, who currently sit 21 points behind rivals Rangers in the Scottish Premiership table. Before you say it – yes, they do have three games in hand.

Things had just started to die surrounding this story when Russian side Spartak Moscow departed for Dubai for their very own mid-season trip.

They touched down this afternoon, and it wasn’t long before their social media admin got online, posting a picture of the squad and staff arriving in the UAE.

Included was a caption, which read: “We’re in Dubai. Any tips, Celtic?”

A recent phenomenon on social media is clubs engaging in banter in an attempt to drive engagement up. Something tells us it definitely won’t be happening with this one.
