Shay Given has found a new Premier League club

A new chapter

Ben Kiely

You’re a Potter, Harry… I mean Shay.

Stoke City have announced the signing of Shay Given on a two-year deal.

The vastly-experienced stopper was a free agent after being released from his contract by Aston Villa, but was snapped up Potters boss Mark Hughes.

Hughes, who worked with Given before, admitted being delighted over winning the race to sign the shot-stopper.

“I know Shay particularly well from our time together at Manchester City and I’m really looking forward to working with him again.

“He will not only be a great asset on the pitch as an outstanding goalkeeper but he’s also a fantastic character to have in the dressing room and around the Club – a true professional.”

The transfer also raises doubts over the future of Asmir Begovic at the club. Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing the Bosnian as a replacement for Petr Cech who joined Arsenal this window.
