Southampton striker Shane Long scored just his second goal of the season against Arsenal on Sunday to give the Saints an early lead at the Emirates.
Long entered this weekend’s match with the Gunners with just one goal in 23 games but doubled his tally in the first-half against Arsenal after latching onto a near post cross from right-back Cédric Soares.
The Portuguese defender received the ball on the overlap and whipped a cross into the six-yard box where Long sneaked in front of Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi to score.
However, Southampton’s lead was short lived as Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang equalised in the 28th minute before Danny Welbeck then gave the hosts the lead 10 minutes later.
Long’s last goal came against Crystal Palace in January where he also opened the lead before the Saints eventually went onto lose 2-1 at St. Mary’s Stadium.
Southampton currently sit in 18th place on the Premier League table as Mark Hughes looks to save the club from relegation with just six games, including Arsenal, left in the season.
