Shane Duffy puts grumpy critic right in his place with amazing promotion tweets

Shane Duffy is a Premier League player.

The Republic of Ireland are set to boast a wide range of talent plying their trade in the top flight of the English football system next season and the Derry native will be right there leading the charge.

Brighton’s 2-1 win over Wigan on Easter Monday saw Chris Hughton win promotion for the club with three games to spare and now they’re just one win away from clinching the title too.

Shane Duffy could only watch on as his team mates got the job done, the defender still laid up with a broken foot that has kept him sidelined since March.

But ever since the 25-year-old joined from Blackburn in August, he has been absolutely integral to the cause. Duffy has started and finished 31 of Brighton’s games, he’s been an ever-present heartbeat manning the gates for the Seagulls.

Now, just about everyone knows that if Shane Duffy has a jump on you, you’re already too late.

This achievement meant a hell of a lot to the former Everton player so he didn’t frankly give two monkeys about how much sense he was making as he tried in some way to put the achievement into words.

Of course though, some people took exception to Duffy’s joy. People don’t generally like when other people are happy so one football fan sought him out to try and bring the Premier League player down a peg or two.

All the way from Brentford and all.

Needless to say, after scoring against them earlier in the year and, yes, after winning bloody promotion, Duffy didn’t have any problem with telling him what was what.

He has a habit of scoring against Brentford.

This was a very, very bad fight to pick.
