Sean St Ledger has put pen to paper on a short-term deal with Ipswich after proving his fitness to the club.
St Ledger, 29, has been without a club since being released by Leicester in the summer but he has been thrown a lifeline by The Blues after signing with the Championship club until early January.
The multipurpose defender has earned 37 caps for the Republic of Ireland but will have to impress to fight his way into the Ipswich starting 11 as the quartet of Luke Chambers, Christophe Berra, Tommy Smith and Tyrone Mings have become a staple of Mick McCarthy’s teamsheets this season.
St Ledger, who hasn’t featured in a competitive domestic match since August 2013, played for Ipswich Town’s Under-21 side on Monday night in order to prove his fitness to the club and he’s been duly rewarded with a deal.
St Ledger will be joined at 4th placed Ipswich by fellow Republic of Ireland international Noel Hunt who has signed on loan from Leeds United until January.
