The Everton defender says Ireland have the capacity to recover after their lacklustre 1-0 defeat to Scotland at Celtic Park.
Coleman was collared by RTÉ correspondent Tony O’Donoghue moments after the final whistle on a deflating night in Glasgow. Ireland fashioned their best chances in the final 10 minutes of this evening’s Euro 2016 qualifier. Prior to that Martin O’Neill’s men mustered long-range pops and flashing headers.
Coleman’s performance was muted in attack while he often left his flank exposed to help populate the Irish box. He was yellow-carded in the match and was fortunate not to be sent off in the closing stages for a rash challenge on Steven Naismith.
Coleman said, ‘We’re disappointed obviously. We came here looking to win the game but it was more important that we didn’t lose.’
Asked about the late Robbie Brady that hit the Scottish crossbar via a headed deflection, Coleman said, ‘That summed up the game. It was very close… We’re devastated but we have to move on.’
