Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk could both leave Liverpool at the end of the season

The end of an era?

Every day that passes by we get a little closer to Jurgen Klopp’s leaving date at Anfield and while a mass exodus of players is not expected there’s sure to be a few veterans who’ll jump ship.

Rumours have emerged that both Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk could be amongst those who leave Liverpool with Klopp to seek success (and fortune) elsewhere.

The reason for these rumours is down to the fact that both Van Dijk’s and Salah’s contracts end in 2025.

Van Dijk has hinted that he’s both open to moving and not open to moving. Should an offer come up from Saudi Arabia, who knows?

The same goes for Salah who signed a six-year deal with the Reds when he first joined, and is also contracted until the end of next season.

That being said, many are wondering if the two Liverpool legends could break their contracts and leave early following Klopp’s exit.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Danny Murphy, Simon Jordan, and Jim White debated the speculation with Jim White saying: “When it comes to players, will one of Liverpool’s most popular players, Mo Salah, be departing the scene with his deal expiring next summer 2025? So too, the deal of Virgyl van Dijk.

“And of course, certainly with the likes of Mo Salah, Saudi Arabia comes into the conversation.”

TalkSPORT’s Saudi correspondent Ben Jacobs added: “I think the pace in which the Saudis have wanted Salah has never stopped and has stayed consistent since Al Ittihad issued an offer.

“They’re biding their time and their timing is obviously key as they don’t want to disrupt Liverpool’s end to the season and Salah is focussed on Liverpool.

“So we can say pretty definitively that Salah along with Kevin De Bruyne are the two top targets for Saudi Arabia however the success chance of getting Salah is still unclear as he may wish to be of a new Liverpool setup under Klopp’s successor. But there’s no doubt Saudi Arabia will try.”

Jacobs continued: “The only difference is the price which is likely to drop below the £100 million in total package or a maximum of £100 million including bonuses.”

He added that he doesn’t believe the Saudi teams will be as aggressive in their hopes of securing some big names and could potentially try and sign some younger talent too.

Speaking about Van Dijk, Jim White said: “I think Liverpool fans are sweating a bit more about the Virgil situation because he’s so key and he’s got a year left.”

The trio added that the decision Virgil comes to is a massive one for himself and for the club as if he signs another deal with Liverpool, that’ll likely last until the end of his career, whereas if he leaves, that too will likely be his final transfer.

Whatever happens, it’ll be big news.
