Russian MP claims women shouldn’t sleep with fans of foreign races at World Cup

Russian MP Tamara Pletneva has been criticised for her comments on Russian women sleeping with fans of foreign races at this summer's FIFA World Cup.

Pletneva, chairwoman of the Family, Women, and Children Affairs Committee in the lower house of parliament, warned Russian women from having sex with fans of foreign races and that she hoped that women would not date visiting fans and get pregnant.

"Russian women should get something clear in their heads regarding foreigners," Pletneva told Govorit Moskva radio station. “Will there still be girls who will date foreigners and then have children from them? Perhaps there will be some but I am hoping not.”

She compared this summer's World Cup to the Moscow Olympics in 1980 where she claimed that many women fell pregnant to foreign men.

“These children have suffered since Soviet times,” she added. “It is good if at least the couple is of one race. But if not then…we’ve got to have our own children.  I am not a nationalist, but nonetheless, I know how children suffer later on. They are being dumped and this is it. “They have to stay here with mothers.”
