Roy Keane rounds off his United rant with Harry Maguire impersonation

“It’s no good, it’s all rubbish.”

Roy Keane was not in the Sky Sports studios for Manchester United’s 5-0 humiliation at the hands of Liverpool last week; a decision Sky producers will be rueing to this day. But a week later, we got our dose of Keane content, as he labelled apologies from Man Utd players “rubbish.”

Keane recalled speaking to Bryan Robson during the week, reflecting on the embarrassing defeat to Liverpool.

“He felt the players gave up,” Keane said.”Which is, I think, the biggest insult you can give to a professional footballer.”

“[There was] a lot of rubbish coming out from players, apologies left, right and centre,” the former United captain continued.

“It’s no good. It’s all rubbish. All that kind of nonsense coming out from players, from ‘team Rashford’ and Maguire.

“Fernandes, a few weeks ago when he missed a penalty against Aston Villa… Just get on with the game, and turn up. Give everything you have for the club.

“They didn’t do that last week.”

Keane has a point about apologies, but maybe not the one he thinks he is making.

It is a sign of a toxic social media environment that players feel the need to issue statements apologising for losing a football match, regardless of the scoreline. But Keane’s point seems to be that they weren’t trying their hardest to win the game.

And then, in true Roy Keane fashion, he rounded it all off with his very own Harry Maguire impersonation. Top class.
