“At the moment I think Manchester United or Bayern Munich are the most suitable for him.”

It’s not even summer yet and, already, every man and his dog is being linked with a move to Old Trafford. The source in this case, though, is family.

Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United is the latest chattering after the striker’s father spoke about him leaving Everton.

In an interview with Belgian outlet, Het Nieuwsblad, Roger Lukaku was speculating over the future of his son and said of a potential transfer: “I think it will be in order before the European Championship.”

With Euro 2016 commencing on June 10, the rumour mill is in overdrive now but Lukaku’s dad reckons that two clubs lead the chase for the signature of the 23-year-old: Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

“At the moment I think Manchester United or Bayern Munich are the most suitable for him,” Lukaku’s dad said [translated via Google].

“He wants to be the best striker in the world. He is big, strong and quick and he plays football very well.

“There are still some details that he needs to improve. But put him in a big team tomorrow, which plays like a real machine, then he hurts every opponent.”

But what if Jose Mourinho takes over at Old Trafford?

The same man that got rid of him at Chelsea and then watched as Lukaku starred at both West Brom and Everton might not be the most compatible match-up for the player.

“That Mourinho could be the new coach of Manchester United, I do not see as a problem,” Roger Lukaku said.

“On the contrary. They can work out each other’s problems at that time.

“We knew it was not easy to be between stars such as Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka but he was a fan of the club. He has learned a lot. And now it looks like he’s been playing in the Premier League for 10 years, even though he’s only 23.”

So where’s he going?

“Manchester United or Bayern Munich are most suitable for him, especially Bayern: Every year they play in at least the semi finals of the Champions League and the Bundesliga will suit him tremendously.

“He cannot go to Italy because they keep it way too tight at the back for an attacker. What is certain: to continue to make progress, he needs to change clubs, but we are mainly engaged in making the right choice.”
