Robbie Keane bows out with touching farewell on his Instagram page

Conan Doherty

68.

There’s not much more left to say but thanks.

Robbie Keane made his final stand in an Ireland jersey and it was an emotional night. On his 146th cap for his country, the nation’s record appearance holder hit a record 68th goal as Martin O’Neill’s men cruised to a 4-0 win over Oman. And, in the 56th minute, Dublin bid him farewell.

Afterwards, the legend was full of class.

He spoke about the game on Monday night against Serbia as more important than his sendoff. He thanked the fans and he held back the tears.

On Thursday, he gave it a final lash with a simple, elegant, heartfelt message to the fans he has served so well.
