Report: Marcos Rojo in talks to join Spanish side

Robert Redmond

Marcos Rojo is in talks to join Valencia, according to reports in Spain.

The Manchester United defender, who joined the club two years ago from Sporting Lisbon, doesn’t appear to be part of Jose Mourinho’s plans, and wasn’t even amongst the substitutes for last Friday’s win over Southampton.

United are reportedly in the market for another central defender, with Saints defender Jose Fonte understood to be Mourinho’s main target.

Rojo, who can play in central defence or at left-back, failed to convince in either position over the past two seasons, and appears to have not done enough to warrant a place in the new United manager’s squad.

The Old Trafford club are reportedly prepared to take a financial loss on Rojo. The 26-year-old Argentine joined for €20m, but Valencia’s bid is understood to be in the region of €12m.

Valencia appear to be preparing to spend some of the money they’re about to receive from Arsenal for German defender Shkodran Mustafi.
