Report: Manchester United agree fee for Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Jack O'Toole

Manchester United have reportedly paid a fee of £55 million for Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

United have targeted the defender repeatedly this month and already have had two bids knocked back, but according to The Daily Record’s Duncan Castles, the two clubs have finalised an agreement that will see the right-back head to Old Trafford next season.

The £55 million fee surpasses the sums paid by both Manchester City for Benjamin Mendy (£52m) and Real Madrid for Ferland Mendy (£47m) while it trails the offer Bayern Munich made for Lucas Hernandez (£68m).

Meanwhile United have also agreed a contract extension with midfielder Juan Mata with the Spanish international signing off on a one-year extension with an option to extend for another year thereafter.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said:

Juan is the ultimate professional and one of the most intelligent players I have worked with. He is a great example to our younger players in his approach. He understands what it means to be a Manchester United player and has embraced everything about this great club.

“As well as everything he brings on the pitch, we have some fantastic young players here and I know that Juan’s vast experience will help them to reach their potential over the coming seasons. I am delighted that he has signed a new contract, as I know that his talent and mentality will be invaluable to the squad.
