The Spaniards have reportedly made contact with the Colombian.
Real Madrid have a long tradition of purchasing a star from the World Cup shortly after the tournament. The 2014 World Cup in Brazil saw them sign Colombia star James Rodriguez, after he dazzled the world with his displays, while the previous World Cup saw them bring in the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Karim Benzema and Ezequiel Garay.
As such, each time a World Cup or European Championship comes around, people expect the La Liga giants to splash the cash on a new star, and if rumours in the Spanish media are to be believed, they could be about to do just that.
According to reports in AS, the Champions League holders have identified Colombia midfielder Juan Fernando Quintero and made contact with him ahead of a prospective move to the Bernabeu.
The 25-year-old, who is contracted to FC Porto but spent last season on on loan at Argentine side River Plate, has enjoyed an impressive World Cup, scoring in Colombia’s opening game courtesy of a free-kick, before impressing again in their second group game against Poland.
He and current Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui have already worked together, when Quintero arrived at FC Porto at the age of 21.
The two are said to have enjoyed a good relationship during his spell working under Lopetegui, but any deal will have to involve negotiations with River Plate, who are believed to have come an agreement with Porto over their own deal to take Quintero to Argentina.
